Luftschnapper München

_A2B9957.JPG

The Luftschnapper München (Air Snappers Munich) were founded in 2003 in the early morning hours of a birthday party in Matthis kitchen (where else?). A drunken idea amongst friends and definitely one of our best ones. We were a bunch of friends who sometimes played football together in the English Garden in Munich and one of us had heard of an organized hobby league with about 200 teams in and around Munich, the Royal Bavarian League, which exists since 1985. We thus decided to take part, hoping to be sponsored by O2 (hence the first part of the name: O2 -> Oxygen -> Air / the second part is due to our physical condition: a little running causes a lot of air snapping). This hope didnt last long, finally a dubious internet company sponsored a set of white T-Shirts, went bankrupt right afterwards, we painted ourselves the numbers on the back of our jerseys and started our career in the Royal Bavarian League.

Out of 11 players only 3 or 4 were real footballers, we lost most of the matches 0:10 or 1:10 but we didnt mind, never gave up, kept on playing, grew a little better every year and in our 3rd season (2006) we accidentally went up from the 4th to the 3rd division where we managed to linger for 7 years (2007-2013), our 3 goals being up to now:

1. Having fun from the 1st to the 3rd half time

2. Never go up to a higher division (much too serious

3. If possible not finish last

Goal number 1 has always been achieved ever since, on the pitch and during the analysis with some pints after the match. Over the years we even promoted to being the fairest team in the Royal Bavarian League ever, winning the fair play cup from 2008-2010, 2012-2015, 2019 and 2022. Goal number 2 is also being achieved very quickly every year, whereas its always quite a challenge up to the last match to reach goal number 3. We actually managed to not finish last for 20 years, nevertheless went down in 2013 to the 4th division and growing better but also much older decided in 2015 to swap into the lowest old gentlemen league where we play since - finally finishing last for the first time in 2023. We thus now claim to be the worst old mens hobby team in and around Munich.

Old but famous: In 2018 we participated with our football team in a product test for a hair growing shampoo (Alpecin) which was organized by one of the national television channels in Germany (ZDF) and broadcasted during prime time: ? DOKU Die Tricks der Kosmetikindustrie - YouTube (from the beginning to minute 8:23). The result: We lost the first match 0:5, tested the shampoo for a few weeks and then won the second match 1:0. The shampoo thus didnt help to grow our hair but we grew better. Of course we havent used the shampoo since in order not to risk our goal number 2 J.

Old but international: This year Francis and his Hucknall Water Polo Club came to Munich and it was a big honour and pleasure for us to organize a friendly against Fran and his guys. Of course we would win, how couldnt we playing football against water polo guys. We lost 3:6. But thats not the end of the story: From 30th October to 4th November we come to Birmingham and Nottingham to play our return match against the Hucknall Water Polo Club. And of course we will win. Or at least have a nice and funny 3rd half with some drinks together afterwards. And MAYBE AND HOPEFULLY even watch Nottingham Forest vs. West Ham United. Das wäre der Hammer!
